John Eli Diggs. He was born in Piney Grove, Boring, Maryland. His father, Emmanuel Diggs, and Grandfather, Edward Diggs, all came from Piney Grove, and dates back to the 1700s as free Black people. This particular photograph was on display in the Smithsonian Institute several years ago.
