The long awaited musical,"Finger of God", by George A. Yorkman, Jr., was performed at Loyola College McManus Theater on May 12, 13, and 14, 1995.
The purpose for the whole project was to provide another vehicle to inform the public of a woman whose walk and work in their midst had left indelible footprints - prints that continue to be relevant for people of the 20th/21st century. Attendance at each night's performan seemed to confirm the achievement of this goal
Budding playwright George A. Yorkman, Jr., demonstrated a real gift for creating words and dramatic situations that inspired and pleased, yet remained faithful to character authenticity and historical and theological accuracy. With expert consultant/director Bill Myers, the production enjoyed successful performances.
The audience was not disappointed in the "down home" gospel sounds of old favorites such as "God Will Take Care of You," "I Surrender All," and "Great is Thy Faithfulness" played and sung by veteran gospel singer Betty Harris.
However, it was "contemporary gospel" music and lyrics that supported the storyline throughout the drama. Composer Juan Woodard, a blues and jazz man, successfully created scores that complimented and made timeless a story of the early eighteen hundreds that 166 years later is still in the telling.
Not to be forgotten are the hundreds of minor and major miracles wrought throughout two years of preparation, production and performance. God provided all that was needed, when it was needed and as much as was needed to tell the Mother Lange story.
Since the performance of "Finger of God",, a video, entitled: "The Finger of God":The Mother Lange Story, has been produced as a documentary by SVD Media Production.
